This family of lighting objects is inspired by the textural and formal qualities of aurora borealis. The shell is a stack of corrugated cardboard, lasercut into rings where each ring rotates 10 degrees relative to the previous one. The rotation plays into the directionality of the corrugation where depending on the point of view, cardboard can be fully opaque or nearly transparent. This creates a gradually shifting passage of light and invites the viewers to move around the piece to get different experiences of the light’s intensity, flow, and texture.
